Every year, there is a wide variety of grants available for senior citizens. There are the federal grants that include the housing, nutrition and education, and grants offered by foundations. However, there is a limited number of grants offered to individuals.

AARP Foundation Grants Program

The Americorps Silver Scholars Program 

This program was established by Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act for healthy people over 55.

Every person that signs up and completes 350 hours of service will receive a $1,000 education award. The money for education can be kept by the seniors or transferred to their children or grandchildren.

Pell Grants For Education

As a senior citizen, you can be eligible for free education. Much as available pell grants, you can apply for TEACH grants too.

Healthcare Grants for Seniors

Verizon Foundation

This foundation helps organizations receive funds for healthcare. The targeted people that need help are seniors with chronic diseases and their goal is to help them stay at home as much as possible, assuring healthcare at home. These grants for seniors may vary between $5,000 and $10,000.


Housing Grants for Senior Citizens

Very Low Income Housing Repair Program

This federal grant is powered by the USDA ( U.S. Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) and offers to senior citizens a maximum of $7,500 in order to repair their house. To apply, one’s must be 62 or older, have low income and prove he can’t repay a home repair loan and live in areas with populations of 10,000 or lower.
